Tips To Keep Your Home Safe While Away

Burglary has become one of the most common crimes. To avoid becoming a statistic, make sure you secure your home by following a few simple tips and investing in some gadgets that help prevent break-ins. Whether going away for a vacation or just heading out for the work day, your home is vulnerable to theft when you are away.

Burglars look for mail, door hangers and news papers that have not been picked up for a few days or blinds that have been closed for a while to tell if you are away. Ask a trusted neighbor or friend to pick up your daily mail and leave behind a key so they can turn on the lights, pull up the blinds and turn on the television for a few hours in the day, to give the feeling that someone’s home. If that is too much of a hassle, invest in motion sensing lights and put your television on a daily timer. Let your area patrol police man know you will be out of town or let them know your work hours and just get your neighbor to keep an eye on your place while you are away.

Investing in a camera and an alarm system is also a great idea. Since cameras are costly, you can also go for a fake one and find a good alarm system that will ring whenever any door or window is forced open without the password. Before heading on a vacation, trim your lawn and bushes and get rid of things that can provide hiding places like dumpsters and secure all doors and windows with dead bolts and multiple locks. Put away valuables items in a place no one will bother to look, like the bottom of your kids toy closet. Lastly, do not advertise your vacation on your voice mail or on social websites.
